my 2000 50 hp E-rude all of a sudden, yesterday,,,,, got sluggish,,, no power or rpm,,,,It ran great for 15/ 20 minutes the other day, then lost power, and only runs at low rpm.

With hand throttle lever, it will rev up, but has a little up and down surge.

I did move the gas tank to the front of boat, a couple weeks ago ,,,,but do not think that is the problem, as while trying to run motor, I was pumping squeeze bulb on fuel line, it made no difference, motor still boggy.

Did a compression test, both cylinders are 120,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so fuel or electrical,,,, ????

new fuel with tank move, with some StaByl added, new plugs this season, and they looked 'wet' when I took them out today.

Have heard a suggestion, it may be the stator failing,,,,, starts fine, idles fines,,, just boggs or wallows under load,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sound like the stator ?

to do a drop test, start motor and remove / replace each plug wire one at a time ????? Or is a drop test more than that ?

can I do that with muffs on, do does it need to be under load ?

added info: at idle or full throttle,,, there is no vibration ,or rattle or shaking,,,,but as mentioned full throttle is not full throttle,,,,,

ok, will test that today with muffs,,,,,couple more thoughts,

whether at idle , or with throttle set to full, it does not shake or vibrate, so my first thought was both cylinders were firing, as I did not notice a 'miss', also did not think it was lack of fuel, as there is no 'cough',,,,,,,,,,,,,,

well,,, found the problem,,,, boy did I mess up,by not detecting this right away,,,,,I installed a new 11 gal fuel tank,,,, and it seems the cap on the new tank was not venting,,, the vent screw was not all the way in, or all the way out, but,,,,,,,,, it seemed awful tight,, ran it in and out,,,, never got "wiggly loose",,,, so I removed and made my own cap vent system,,, took boat to river it ran fine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so it was a fuel issue all along.
