2000 5.0 L Temp Gauge going in Reverse

RES

New member
Hi,

I have a 2000 5.0 L MC which loses temperature as RPMs increase. I have just installed a new 160 deg. thermostat hoping that it would solve the problem. No luck. At 1000 RPMs it is showing 142 deg. At 3500 RPMs it drops to 100 deg. I noticed on another post the exact same problem described but it did not go on to say how it was resolved. My luck... The other post did mention that he had replaced the impeller, had recently replaced his risers and still had the problem. I am going to check the heat sensor on the thermostat housing. Any other suggestions?

Thanks inadvance

Re: 5.0 L Temp Gauge going in Reverse

Hello,

I resolved the issue by replacing the thermostat with a 160* thermostat. But now I'm having a new issue with one side of the engine running 200*+, other side is cool 170*. I'm going to start a new thread on this issue.

Hi David,

I believe I found the problem. I had the boat out on the weekend and it started to have electrical problems. Starter would not engage properly, volt guage and radio not working. I checked the batteries to find them good, cleaned the connections and no luck. I then went to the starter and cleaned the connections and problem solved... The temp guage is a consistant 150. I am looking to buy one of the heat detectors as I understand they are not too expensive. I could see one coming in handy and giving some piece of mind. Thanks Randy
