"took boat out today . engine starts great , idles good but would not get the boat up on plane . I had the throttle wide open and the engine would only turn 3500 and the speed would not get over 25 mph. I don' think it's fail safe everything looked good . Any ideas ??? thanks"

"I am working through the same exact problem on a 1998 200. Look at the thread "200 Oceanpro reduced power" , last post today - everything is in there.
I seem to have eliminated most things.
Compression, sparks, timing etc.
Notice that loss of a cylinder or two makes almost no noticeable difference for start/idle.
Thought I had it when I found all flywheel magnets loose and moved. Fixed that and still low power.
I am going to repeat all the tests I can again tomorrow, but to be honest, I am getting tired of this procedure.
I have to finish though, because the so-called techs here in Antigua are much worse than me."

"Ddklegget by the way, if I make any progress I will post a reply here, and I expect there will be more stuff on the oceanpro reduced power thread.
These two engines are almost identical as far as I can see."

"John, I am curious if you have checked the bushings in the prop. I had a friend with a similar failure and that turned out to be his problem, that us one thing I plan to look at also when u get a chance to wok on it some more. Thanks"

Re: 2000 150 ocean pro not planing boat

DK, my problem turned out to be loose magnets in the flywheel but it took a lot of advice and hair tearing to find out.
It lost me about 1000 rpm as at least one cylinder was not firing properly.
The magnets can be seen through slots in the outer top of the flywheel.
There should be six evenly spaced with about 3/8 gaps between.
Of course there are many other ways for you to loose a cylinder. About every one seems to be covered on the '200 Ocean pro lost power' thread by real experts.

Re: 2000 150 ocean pro not planing boat

Gentelmen,I too am working through the same exact problem on a 1992 120 looper.
Good spark and clean carbs .
Only getting 1 or 2 MPG
I could not get more than 4100rpm even with a much smaller prop.
But it would go over 6000rpm if I trimed it up.
but then it would just loose bite and the boat would slow down.
I found when I had the heads off and turned the engine over by hand I had a loud pop from the crank case through the tranfer ports on the top two cylinders and a weak pop on #3 no pop on #4.
When I turned it over with the starter motor you can really feel the pop blow hard on your hand .
So I stripped the power head all the way down to find why I had no crankcase compresion on #4.
I found The 3 lower crank sealing rings badly worn the top 3 show no wear.
I have replaced all 6 rings, honed and checked the bores and fitted new piston rings.
I have just got it all back together this week.
I have check the crankcase compresion before I put the heads on and get a loud pop from all 4 cylinders.
I have had it running in the water tank to check the setting It sound really good.

I will have to run it in before I can try full power, but I hope to see a better power delivery
right though the rev range.

Now a compression test did not show a problem as all cylnders had 120psi give or take a pound.

I did get it out on the river Saturday, after running up to 3000rpm for 1 hour and 4000rpm for an hour I let it go to 5000rpm for a minute.
This is only 2/3 throttle.
So I can said The power is back.
Now I need to put the bigger prop back on

Re: 2000 150 ocean pro not planing boat

dklegget2..... Trouble shoot first. Check compression (approx 100 psi), then with spark plugs removed, check for spark that will jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP!

If the above areas are as they should be, suspect fouled high speed carburetor jets.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:
