2000 15 hp 4 stroke cracked block

I have a 2000 15 hp 4 stroke that is getting water in the oil. Marine tech says testing indicates a possible cracked block. Is there a way to use something like radiator leak stop to seal the crack?
Thanks

O.K. so I pulled the spark plugs and the tops of both pistons look quite rusty. Does that tell us anything?

That really sounds like a cracked block - and if it is the only remedy is a new block - nothing in a can will fix that.

This isn't a closed system like you have in your car - there is no way to keep "stop leak" in there long enough even if it would do the job.

I will assume that the "mechanic" checked for a blown head gasket which would also allow water into the cylinders (which could ultimately get into the oil)...

GALAMB, took a look at your profile and I see you own a GLEN-L boat. This problem motor just happens to be on a 20' version of a GLEN-L kingfisher that I built.

BOTH pistons showing water might indicate a blown head gasket--these engines DO have them. Have the gasket pulled and take a really good look. You might get lucky.

Yes, I have a (self-built) Cuddy Sport (Ken Hankinson design/Glen-L) stretched to almost 26'.

It's using a little more power than your 15 horse however. Have a 140 Evinrude (which I bought used and rebuilt/refurb'd).

Already thinking about another build - probably an outboard runabout in the 15-16 foot range...

Just love wooden boats :)

Re: 15 hp 4 stroke cracked block

So your kicker isn't "kickin'".

When it is working do you find it's enough power - what I mean is, if you lost your big motor would the 15 get you back to the dock in a strong wind?

I'm trying to come up with my own (rule of thumb) as to how many horse a kicker should be, not only for trolling, but say running "no wake" canals, or limping back in.

I'm running a 9.9 on mine now (about 2800 pounds rigged/loaded) and it works well unless it's really windy. But for longer term (security) I'm considering moving to a 20 or 25 horse - so still crunching the numbers at this point...

Well the 15 horse is actually running realy good. It is just getting wet where is shouldn't. Not sure the weight of my rig but the 15 is a bigfoot and maxes out at 5mph.

This site, if he has what you are after.

Prices are good and shipping is fast/cheap.

Check out the drop down "boat engine parts" at the top of this page...

Re: 15 hp 4 stroke cracked block

Well, I replaced the head gasket and the valve cover seal and went for a 6 hour troll. After returning home I still had good looking oil in the crank case!!!!!!!!!!!! I am elated. Even though when I pulled the head the gasket looked fine. Didn't expect to be bringing good news when I looked at the oil but I am.
Thanks so much to all of you who offered opinions on this issue.
