200 Ocean Pro wont trim up down

I have twin 200's on a 27 ft Boston Whaler FC. I just bought the boat and had a bunch of service on the carbs impellers etc.
I took it out and ran in for 1.5 hours. Everything was great.
I took it out yesterday and the trim was acting strange and not being responsive. It is now in the full up position. I need help in diagnosing the issue.....

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

You have two seperate issues.
#1 You need to adjust your shifting rod to get it to go into reverese. When the service people had the lower unit off they probably altered the length of the shifting rod hence the motor not going into reverse. It requires you to drop the lower unit everytime you screw in or out the shifting rod (PIA). The rod can be measured for the distance and it will get you very close. I dont remember off the top of my head the distance but I can get back to you on the length.
#2 Your trim motor could be the problem or it could be the electrical portion. Remove the cowling and listen for a click when you push the trim control. No click could mean you have a bad selinoid and would likely affect the up and down and not just one direction. Check to see if the unit has ATF fluid in the reservoir, fill purge air and try again. Do you hear the motor working when you push the trim button? if so Its likely fluid problem. If the selinoid is good and you have fluid in the res. Then its likely the T/T motor. They are rebuildable but I would buy another one, they are around $60.
If you need to lower the motor you can turn the manual release valve and it will allow the motor to do down. Be advised if this valve has not been turned in some time they can be very difficult to get unstuck. If difficult, soak the area down with PB blaster or Aerokroil and wat a few hours and try again. If you really crank on the screwdriver you will likely damage the slot where the screwdriver slot is.
good luck

Thank you so much. Im very grateful.

Agreed, you have 2 separate issues.

Shift rod length.......
The measurement for the shift rod is highly exact, and if you set the height according to OEM spec the shifting will work perfectly. That lower unit will have to come off again and have the shift rod length adjusted. The shift rod height differs between models and years you'll need to post a model# here for us to help find the right value.

PTT Stuck........
I had this happen on my '96 Intruder 150. There is a relief valve on the side off the transom bracket. Use a flat blade screwdriver to turn that counter clockwise and the engine will come down. KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT OF THE WAY....IT CAN COME DOWN QUICK WITH A MAJOR PINCH HAZARD!!!.

Once you have it down do as BillyClub said and double check your reservoir to make sure all air is purged out.

ood morning Guys!
I checked for the serial or model # and I found it. it is E225CXEUD. So I can say with confidence that the motor is a 225 not a 200. It has different cowlings on it. Im not sure why..... On the other hand I did manage to loosen the large screw to lower the engine into towing position and I did get it to lift and lower from the controls both at helm and on the engine. This morning Im going to fill the reservoir and see what happens.
Seeings how I recently had all that service work done could it be that the tech didnt adjust the shift rod correctly? Im just wondering as I dont want to give up another couple hundred to get this issue fixed......
Also is there a reason as to why the shift lever is almost totally loose. The handle basically slides forward with the smallest amount of pressure. Is there an adjustment for this?
I really appreciate the help and I look forward to hearing from you guys.

That model # translates to a 1997 Evinrude 225.

the shop could have overlooked properly setting the rod height. If it shifted before you took it in and now it doesn’t then it’s their problem to correct. For a competent shop it will take less than 1 hour to drop the leg, set the rod height, and reinstall.

on the PTT you want raise up, top off the reservoir, replace the cap, then cycle up and down a few times. Next check the reservoir again and top off if needed. Repeat this until the fluid level stays the same. At that point you should have all air purged from the system.
