200 mariner isnt peeing when ideling

"i just bought a 96 200 marine

"i just bought a 96 200 mariner and the impeller was replaced 6 months ago, but when i back the boat into the water and turn it on... it doesnt pee, just spits out air and a little water sputter. do i need to give it gas for it to pee??? dont want to ruin the motor.... any input would be great, the man i bought it from said that when he idels sometimes it wouldnt pee but then he would start moving again and it would pee again...thanks"

Most motors "pee" at idle. Did you replace the impelleer yourself or did you let someone else do it?
 
Look at your poppit valve it c

Look at your poppit valve it could be stuck open.
I would also check the tel tail to see if you have restriction there. insects down here in ga plugs up any hole they can find.

"I too have been having problems with the cooling system and have just identified the offending parts, had fitted new pump impeller, gaskets seals, poppet valve diaphragm and thermostats on my 135 Mariner, no water from the tell tale until she warmed up, I compared the old and new thermostats, old ones had two small by-pass holes, new ones did not, drill two small holes and problem solved, now back to normal, running cool and water from tell tale within 20 seconds or so from start up, almost immediately when boat is in the water, I’m going to try it with a single bypass hole in the thermostats, see how that works.

have a look at the impellar is

have a look at the impellar is postioned facing the correct way all so look at the impellar if it looks like a starfish get another one
make sure the key seal and gasket are sealed
