"the motor is a 1991 200 hp johnson. the carbs were recently rebuilt, new water pump and thermostats. the problem is the motor will run great for between 5 to 10 minuts then the motor starts to shut down like you have hit a rev limiter. if you try to speed back up you get to 2800 rpm and it does it again. now if you turn the motor off then back on it will run fine for another 5 to 1o minutes"

"there are no horns that sound when this happens, yes the buzzer is still working. it beeps every time you turn the key on. the vro system i am assuming is the oil injection system which had been removed prior to me purchasing the boat. why after i turn then key off then back on will it get up and run again if it is over heating. i really appreciate your help my wife and i bought this boat so we would have more room for our kids. unfortunately we have not been able to use the boat yet"

"The S.L.O.W. feature that JWB

"The S.L.O.W. feature that JWB mentions..... cuts in when the engine reaches a certain overheat temperature, before the engine gets hot enough to do damage. This drops the rpm down to around 2500 rom.

Turning the key OFF then back ON resets that feature temporarily.... until it once again reaches that overheat temperature point.

I'd suggest that you drop that lower unit and double check the water pump and the installation of same. Always possible that a water tube has folded over a grommet, the housing O Ring squezzed out of place, a plastic bag was picked up and caused the impeller to distort. (Forest Gump syas "It happens")
