The original part in question is 6G5-43831-00-00 and was replaced with 64E-43831-00-00 and was wondering if this item is interchangable? thanks Tom

Where are you getting information that says 64E-43831-00-00 replaced 6G5-43831-00-00?

If, repeat if, the 64E prefix part number replaced the 6G5 prefix part number then they would be interchangeable.

But I am not seeing that one replaced the other.

The 6G5 prefix part number has long since been discontinued by Yamaha US. No replacement part is shown.

I got the replacement information from my local boat store and printed off the info from the yamaha site

If the local boat store gave you information from the Yamaha site, why the question?
