"When turning key off, slows down and stumbles but only stops after long time by loading up in gear.I studied the book but my wiring is different from the book so I cant sort this out.. The black/yellow from p/pack only goes to the shift switch. The black yellow from the key switch goes somewhere else I cant trace. Any ideas? There's no emergensy stop I can find on the Striper 23."

"There should be a seperate bullet connector at your key switch, which is the killer wire. When the key is turned off, the black ground wire should be connected to the black/yellow wire.

Alternatively, the shift assist switch only kills 1/2 the motor cylinders spark.

Do you have a wiring schematic?"

"(Ignition Kill Circuit)
(J. Reeves)

A Black wire (ground) should lead from the powerhead to the powerpack. There will also be a Black/Yellow wire leading from the powerpack to a raised "M" terminal of the ignition switch. To complete the circuit, there will be a Black wire from the other "M" terminal of the ignition switch to ground.

When the key is in the OFF position = The two "M" terminals are connected,. effectively shorting/killing the ignition.

When the key in ON position = The two "M" terminals are not connected and the ignition is engaged.

The stumbling you speak of indicates that only one bank is being shut down. On older models that have two powerpacks, there is but one black/yellow kill wire leading from the key to the RED plug at the engine BUT then branches off into two black yellow wires, each leading to the individual powerpacks.

Unfortunatey I retired before your engine was manufactured so I am not knowledageable in its circuitry but the above might lead you into the area of correction.

"Thanks for those comments. I do have the diagram and I used to be a marine electronics eng. so can read it OK. On mine ( unlike th wiring diagram in the V6 manual, the famous black/yellow only goes to the shift switch. The black/yellow from the key goes somewhere else - hard to trace. There seems to be no emergency sut0ff on the Striper. The problem seems to be only 3 cylnders get shut down, as you say.The key shutdown circuit checks good for closure when off all thru to the first engine multi connector. This is Antigua and there are no experts unfortunately."
