2004 200 EFI Starts fine, smokes, idles a little rough and won't throttle up. It tries but it just sputters and won't accelerate. Changed fuel / water separator, fuel filter, new gas and oil pump seems to be working. Warning buzzer sounds and intermits, the goes solid sometimes. This just started out of nowhere. Been running perfect before this.

Performed compression test this morning
5/4 compression test

#3 - 120
#4 - 122
#5 - 120
#6 - 125

i think the noise in the video is sputtering you hear. It's a Merc EFI....always been noisy

If all the holes are firing the next step is to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the port on the VST and check the pressure while running. There are filters in the vst and there is a small one inside the fuel regulator that may need to be serviced.

Post the serial number.

Next step
is to make sure holes are definitely firing. I'll have to rely on the Mercury tech for the VST

Thanks so far. I really appreciate it.

Update- was getting the 4 beeps on the buzzer which indicates an oil issue. Took to the Mercury tech and he put in on the computer. Code says it wasn't getting oil but it obviously was. Replaced engine mounted oil resivoir with the internal sending unit as suggested by the tech no that wasn't it. Still stumped on this one. Buzzer isn't sounding anymore and doesn't sound she you turn the key on either. It may have gone bad.

If the oil pump drive gear is bad it wouldn't be getting oil correct? It's definitely smoking good and the oil resivoir overflows when you loosen the cap.

It will oil if the gear is going bad, just not enough. it starts striping the teeth off. I would check it. The oil tank filling has nothing to do with the pump, the tank fills off of crank case pulse.

Dockside - is pulling the oil pump gear something a normal mechanically inclined person can do? I've done everything listed myself up to this point. I've heard that's a pretty big job.

Also, if I disconnect the oil pump and premixed my fuel, would the problem I'm having go away? I know how to to do this as I did it to my 135 Mariners last year.

Thanks again for your help

For anyone that's interested, Got it from the shop today. It was the freaking spark plugs. I had tested them and they were sparking but when in the block I guess three of them were grounding out. Running on only three cylinders. Easy fix thank god. I should of replaced them right off the get go. Thanks for everyone's help.
