"Hi, I just bought a 20 Hp Johnson, I'm trying to find out the year and operating manual. The model is 20BA77S, serial number is C22105, I think it was made by Johnson Canada. Any help would be appreciated."

"Tim, it's a 1977 model.

"Tim, it's a 1977 model. You won't find it on the BRP website (for parts). But Johnson did make 20 horse motors between 1969 and 1979.

A Seloc's manual is available that covers this model (along with others in the smaller horsepower range) and can be obtained on this site as either a hardcopy or download version.

Just check out on the right of this page..."

"Thanks Graham, I've order

"Thanks Graham, I've ordered a Seloc Manual.
Hey another question. At one time was Johnson Canada separate from Johnson USA? Would this explain why I'm having such a hard time finding reference to my Johnson Canada serial number?"

"Tom, no they weren't sepa

"Tom, no they weren't separate. But both OMC and Merc used a different series of serial numbers to distinguish what was made in what country.

So you have U.S., Canadian, Australian (Merc), Belgian (OMC) and International serial numbers. And since most websites that cater to these numbers are U.S., Canadian numbers are very difficult to correlate.

The problem is that there was really no "one place" that kept a good track of all of these - at least not that shared it with the general public.

And in the case of OMC where they incorporate the year into the model number - the serial number is "really" of little importance for other than title or maybe insurance purposes...

Since Bombardier bought out OMC they are trying to establish a decent parts supply system etc. It could have been an "oversight" on their part by not including the 20 horse models in that 10 year period for their online parts list.

I would suspect that an OMC dealer would have access however, to a parts list...."
