"Tom, no they weren't separate. But both OMC and Merc used a different series of serial numbers to distinguish what was made in what country.
So you have U.S., Canadian, Australian (Merc), Belgian (OMC) and International serial numbers. And since most websites that cater to these numbers are U.S., Canadian numbers are very difficult to correlate.
The problem is that there was really no "one place" that kept a good track of all of these - at least not that shared it with the general public.
And in the case of OMC where they incorporate the year into the model number - the serial number is "really" of little importance for other than title or maybe insurance purposes...
Since Bombardier bought out OMC they are trying to establish a decent parts supply system etc. It could have been an "oversight" on their part by not including the 20 horse models in that 10 year period for their online parts list.
I would suspect that an OMC dealer would have access however, to a parts list...."
