" I have a 20HP Johnson engine (approximately 1974). While having the engine engaged in forward, the motor will "pop" out of and back into gear. It does not do this when in reverse. The pop happens within a rhythm and that rhythm has picked up in tempo as I approached the dock. I am sure it has something to do with the gearing and lower unit, because the motor is firing fine without any miss fires. Any help or sugestions as to the diagnosis and repair of this problem is appreciated. "
