2 stroke motor shuts down for no apparent reason

"I appreciate any help/suggestions anyone can give me on this. I have a 2.7 HP Cruise and Carry outboard motor. It starts at the first pull and runs and idles fine. After some time of running (can't pinpoint time as I shut motor off when anchoring boat for fishing) the motor just shuts off by itself. It does not appear to be a fuel problem as there is still fuel in the bowl of the carbutator each time I checked when the motor shut off. The strange part is that I could re-start the motor after one or 2 pulls, although sometimes it took more pulls. The motor would shut off again after 1 minute of running or so and I could then re-start it again, thank goodness. Doing this repeatedly finally brought me back to the dock.

When I checked the spark plug when it was doing this, the spark plug looked clean. Yet I suspect it to be electrical in nature somehow. Could it be a capacitor heating up, preventing proper voltage to the spark plug?

I am taking the engine apart and doing a thorough cleaning of carburator and piston and cylinder (de-carb) but still feel shaky about the whole thing. Hate to be stuck on the lake and having to row all the way back from a fishing trip.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

"Henk, I believe you are on the right track, sounds like an ignition problem that shows up when the engine has heated up (not totally uncommon).

The problem you are going to have is trying to find parts for this thing. Cruise and Carry was produced by HMC (Hawaian Motor Corp) which also built Green Machine - very much out of business now, and have not heard of anyone having any luck finding a parts source...."

"Hi Graham,
Thank you for your input and helpfulness and for donating your time to help people like me. Really appreciate people like you. You are a real blessing.
You don't think I can get ignition parts from other places than HMC? I would think that providing a spark to a spark plug would be a common thing. At least I know now what to look for. Thanks again

"Henk, every once in a while someone posts with a Cruise and Carry. I have done a number of searches, as I imagine they have as well. If anyone has found a parts source, they sure haven't passed it along.

They may have used (standard) ignition and carbs from a generic maker, but again, have never had luck finding a cross reference..."
