2 stroke johnson 48 special runs rough and has no power

Hi I have a 2 stroke johnson 48 special the year is some were in the 1990's. It doesnt idle for long runs rough and looses power as you accelerate. Ive changed the fuel pump and spark plugs. I also overhauled both carbs. What else could i check?

You will need to do a Compression test and a spark test. Make sure you have a nice strong spark on each cylinder. The spark should jump a gap of 7/16" or 11mm with a nice audible snap.

These motors have a history of breaking the pistons and rings.--------A compression test is the first thing to do.

Hey guys thank you very much ill try checking both spark and compression. This is my first time ever working on outboards so any advice is helpful for me!
