"I have a 9.5 horse Johnson MQ-10R. I just got it from a friend and I don't know if it is 2 or 4 stroke. If it is two, what is the mixture? I don't want to ruin it by running it wrong..."

welcome to marineengine!!

1964 and i believe its 50:1 but its at the transition year..when they changed from 24:1... so you may want to wait and see what the gurus have to say about the fuel/oil

ive got a 1964 18hp that is marked 50:1 on the original plate...so you might give it a good looking over....mine was on the front plate..on the hood.

heres a link that you may want to read.....like i said its right by the transition ---may have been made toward the end of '63

That'll be a 2 stroke. As

That'll be a 2 stroke. As David says its a 1964 model and unless anybody says different it'll run on a 50:1 mix using an oil to tcw3 spec

I think you will find that 1964 was the first year for the 9.5
