2.3 liter low fuel pressure

Hello,

I have had problems for quite a while with running above 4000 rpm. It will start to surge above, basically it is running out of fuel. The way I have dealt with it is by running below that. When skiing it was really noticeable so I decided it was time to fix it. I have a Weber, and checked the float adjustment and it is OK. I just checked fuel pressure and I only have 1 psi, so my fuel pump is not working properly. Spec is between 2 to 4 psi. My dilemma is do I get another mechanical pump or do I throw out the works and install an electric pump? There is also a spacer between the block and pump, would it make any difference if I remove it? I think if I removed the anti-siphon valve it would help, but I know that is a no no.

Thanks for your help.

Rob.

Greetings, Robj.

If it was my engine I would install an electric fuel pump of the correct pressure range, and I would remove the mechanical pump and blank the hole. I recall reading somewhere that the mechanical fuel pump delivers too much pressure for the Weber carb.

I would probably leave the spacer, but that should not make much of a difference.

You are right, the anti-syphon valve is there for a good reason, and it should not hamper the performance of a fuel pump in good condition.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. That is the direction to which I was leaning toward. Will see what the dealer has for electric fuel pumps tomorrow. Have you seen any schematics around on how best to wire these things? I know I need an oil pressure switch. Kind of have it figured out how to install it.

I will try do some more tests tomorrow to make sure it is the pump before I go and spend more $$.
