2.2 mercury wont start

i got a mercury 2.2 hp i changed the spark plug cleaned the carb and gas lines put new fluel in but wont start. when i sprayed starting fluid on the plug and put it back in it started for a few seconds then died after it all burned off. the spark plug boot is cracked would that have anything to do with it? please help

Spark plug boot will leak spark and needs to be replaced but not problem with not starting if fuel is sprayed into engine and she runs for a few seconds the u have fuel problem remove and clean carb thoroughly internally removing jets and cleaning out idle ports
