"I have a 24' Cape Horn with twin 150 Mercury Optimax's. In past, when the starboard engine was cold, the RPM's would fluctuate wildly, but the boat was running smooth so I just assumed this was a faulty wire or sensor. This past week, both engines was running fine for 15-20 minutes after leaving dock, then right engine dropped to around 2000 RPM shorlty after going through some rough water. Pulled the engine up to check for lines and it was fine, but would not restart and idle. Could get it to run by throwing it in gear at about 2000 RPM or neutral and rev (only way to plane in 3 ft Gulf). Got home changed all plugs and plug wires and #6 cylinder did not appear to be firing. Engine will turn over briefly then die unless rev RPM's up. Thinking maybe it is coil pack, but #6 coil pack is tough to replace and I would think engine would still run with just one 1 of 6 cylinders missing. No one locally can get it on a diagnostic machine for at least a week and have family coming in town for wedding- anyone have any other ideas what it could be?"
