The temp. alarm goes of sparat

The temp. alarm goes of sparatically. The motor is still putting (peeing) out water as it should. Thinking it is just a faulty sensor. Sounds right or am I looking at a bigger problem? Thanks as always

Could be your impeller is telling you it needs changing. It could be pumping but not at the required pressure.

The water pump/impeller is about three years old. The gauge that is showing the water pressure coming out of the pee hole is showing great pressure.

Sometimes the alarm will go of

Sometimes the alarm will go off as soon as I turn it on and has not even warm up yet. It went off after sitting a day or two as soon as the engine started. Just throwing that out there.

Sparatically. doesn't do it all the time. When it first started the alarm horn. the last two times I started the motor that day it didn't go off. Then after a day or two I started it in the driveway the alarm went off right away. Went to the river and after a couple of stops started up again with the alarm horn.

"Jonathon,

Sounds like a bad sensor. I had a very similar situation with my 83' 115 Hp Johnson. The sensor is just a bi-metal coil that when gets hot opens up and creates a ground, triggering the horn. They will over time open up on their own and create a short causing an alarm. What you are seeing is sometimes it makes contact and sometimes it doesn't. I believe the new sensors comes with two wires, one being a separate ground wire. This should prevent this from happening in the future."
