1999 Ficht re-fit possibility

I have a 1999 Evinrude Ficht 175 (model-E175FPXEEC) with a cooked (Evinrude dealer tech diagnosis) non reprogrammable EMM. This particular model used a relatively short run, 6 to 9 months, production EMM, very hard to find used and will be undoubtedly harder in the future. I was wondering if my engine could be stripped down to the power head and refit with all components of, say a 2001 175 donor engine - wiring harness, stator, all accessories, sensors etc, and function as a 2001 model after proper programming. The 2001 parts are much more available in the used market. This would save an otherwise low hour, excellent condition motor. I was wondering if anyone has attempted such a conversion or if there is anything unsurmountable in attempting it. Thanks for any input, Kevin
