1999 50HP Merc won't keep running unless choked.

Hey Y'all,
First outing in 6 months was a disaster. Motor starts, but leans out and stops after 10-15 seconds. If I keep pushing the choke it will run, but stops if I quit choking it. The fuel is likely ok, as I filled my car at the same pump and car runs fine. Tank bulb is firm. Fuel filter checked ok. Any thoughts?

Before rebuilding the carbs try this trick. Run the engine out of fuel to empty the carbs or open the drains to empty them. Empty the squeeze ball pump and hose of fuel and use it to fill the carbs w/straight SeaFoam or equal. Let them soak 24/48 hrs. Fire the engine...it will smoke alot and run it at 1800 RPM on a hose or 3000 RPM in the water. Keep the engine vertical while soaking.
