1999 4 stroke 6 HP

The shifting is hard to shift into forward or reverse running or not . Is this a common problem. Any suggestions. This has the shifter in the front of motor. Thanks

Well I guess I will take the lower unit off . Where is the shifter linkage on this motor to drop the lower unit. Thanks

I think the shift rod just pulls from the lever at the top. No join in it if that's what you are expecting.

I'll bet your problem is lack of lubrication of the bits at the top and that there's nothing wrong down below.

Ok . So it just drops out ? Always had to disconnect the shift rod on my old motors. Thanks

Perhaps worth pointing out that the shift rod turns on this one. Does not push -pull like most.

So is there anything I need to know about pulling the lower unit off ? I tryed lubing the shift up top .(didnt help) I think maybe the bushing might need changed by the lever that turns.Whats the easiest way to check that out ? Thanks Again
