"Hi, This is my first post to this site. I have been very pleased with the information given to people on their outboard issues. I am hoping to get some answers on my Johnson 200 hp model# J200PLEEN. First some info on the set up. I do not use the VRO and am mix my oil (Amsoil HP synthetic) 50:1. The engine is mounted on a Javelin 4ooT bassboat, max RPM 5800 w/24 Raker prop full load. Three weeks ago while out on the lake, had just taken off and had the rpms up to around 4500, when I heard a hard knock from the engine, shut the engine down and was towed to the landing. This was at the end of the day and had traveled around 30 miles durring the course of the day, with no issues. After getting home removed the heads and found the #2 piston damaged around the outside top of the piston. You could see an imprint of the pin from one of the ring grooves in the head and the piston top. The inside of the cylinder does have some light scoring and looks to have a small chip from one of the ports. I have a Johnson shop manuel and have took the motor down to the bare block. All the remaining pistons and cylinders look good. I am planning to have the one cylinder bored and replace the one damaged piston. The first question I have is why the pin came out of the piston, is this a common problem? The second question is do I need the rodcap alignment tool to retorque the rodcaps? I looked at a previous post and it was said to look at the grind marks and see if they run vertical or horizontal. I have looked at mine and can't tell. I am hoping to be able to rebuild my engine myself, so any helpful information will be apreciated. I have my oldest girl in her second year of colledge and need to save as much $ as I can. Looking forward to the answers. Thanks again, Bassman1"
