1998 VP 50Gi stalling

oddity

"Hi, I'm new to this forum

"Hi, I'm new to this forum but could really use some help.

I have read many of the posts and threads that relate to fuel and electical problems on 5.0Gi engines but want to clarify one thing before I start buying new parts or spending loads on expensive dealer mechanics.

If there is a loud whistling from the low pressure fuel pump and it is getting hot does that always mean a new pump is required?

The engine starts first time, runs at idle OK until at operating temperature and then runs badly. Increasing the revs will cause the engine to stall after a few minutes and the EFI circuit breaker to trip out.

Resetting the breaker allows the engine to start again but it will stall shortly after at increased revs.

The engine was serviced late last year and has not seen any significant use since. Fuel & oil filters were replaced along with plugs etc. All drive belts were also replaced. I have checked the HT leads, distributor cap and rotor. Whilst they are not "as new" they are OK.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!"

I would be suspect of a 'w

I would be suspect of a 'whistling' fuel pump that gets hot. The pump may be causing the circuit to trip. Most pumps are cooled by the fuel they pump.

For peace of mind I would consider replacing the fuel pump anyway and as a bonus see if that solves the stalling problem.

Thanks Mike - I think that it

Thanks Mike - I think that it has to be the first part to replace even though it is the most expensive - if it doesn't fix the stalling at least I'll have a spare !

Can't see any other problems in the engine bay so unless it is an electrical component failure I hope this will sort it out.

Does anyone have a view on Volvo vs Sierra vs OMC ?
