"My 98 merc150 6 cyl starts,idles and cruises fine at low speed, but when I try to crank it up it bogs down and will not plane. It doesn't want to cut out and will just push water until the temp alarm sounds. I've changed the plugs, shot carb cleaner into the carbs, changed the fuel filter and changed the prop. What's next?"

Has it always had this problem? IE: are you new to this boat? Might be transom height of motor?

Pump fuel bulb when this phenomenen happens.

This is something new. It's run fine for the last 3 years that I've had the boat. I'll try pumping the bulb this weekend when I get down to the boat. I'm guessing that if it remedies the problem that a new fuel pump would be my next step? Thanks for your help.

Not always fuel pump, could be sucking air somewhere in the system.
Poor connectors,
Cracked lines (supply or under hood),
Bad gasket on carbs,

What bothers me is the high temp alarm...

Go see how it performs, check these suggestions and we'll run from there.

I checked all connections and

I checked all connections and fuel lines and couldn't find anything. The 2 stroke oil tank did let out some air when I opened it(this was taken out of service by the previous owner). When I ran the boat it ran fine. Could that have been the problem?
