1998 Johnson J150ELECD - Regulator / Rectifier Switch Not Connecting

Hello,

I am running into a bit of a head scratcher. When I open the throttle to my J150ELECD, the voltage jumps to close to 18v. After doing some digging, I replaced the regulator / rectifier, but same thing. I did however continue troubleshooting and found that the switch that goes to the ground at the top, is not closing. The switch itself works after testing with a meter, but the casing with the spring doesn't connect to anything.

Looking at the parts diagram, I thought it might be upside down but I don't know. I would think something would press
Some pics of what I have going on -
Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks,

That is your shift interrupt switch and it momentarily kills power to the port bank of cylinders when shifting from neutral to forward or reverse.

Check out the CDI Electronics Troubleshooting Guide. Step by step instructions for your engine start on page 72. It doesn't necessarily address your high voltage, but it will give you instructions to test your ignition system and ensure everything is working to spec before chasing down more parts.
