1998 Johnson 9.9 water pump grommet

Hey guys,
I am in the process of replacing my water pump impeller on my 1998 or 1999 Johnson 9.9 short shaft outboard.

my question is, the impeller kit came with 3 different grommets for the water tube. Which one is supposed to be used for my application?

also, the kit came with a small o-ring. I can’t find where that small o-ring would go?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. These models have a grommet at the very top of the water tube where it enters the power head and I think there is a double grommet at the water pump area one for the water pump housing and another for the bottom of the tube. The small o-ring may go at the top of the drive shaft and you want to be sure to grease those splines to keep the water/rust out.

The kit may include parts for other models
Choose the parts you need.

Look at the illustration of the parts included in the kit in the parts list on this site. The part numbers are quoted so you should be able to identify which is which

Yes I see now, that there are 2 different designed grommets, not two that work together. Thanks, Vic. I have somehow missed the opportunity to change the water pump on this particular model.

The taller triangle shaped grommet is for the long shaft water tube the smaller one is for a shortshaft. I use the long shaft one exclusively regardless of shaft length. Your motor does not use the oring at the top of the driveshaft just lube the splines and and be happy..

Right. I remember now. Good job, Larry. I'm about to finish a 9.9 job now.....converting to a 15 with a Joe Reeves carb. Wish I had a hundred more 15 carbs. How ya doing, Joe? Any more carbs?
