" Went to my neighborhood OMC

" Went to my neighborhood OMC (bombardier) dealer today and bought the powerpack for a 1998 Johnson 200 HP, making the mistake of not taking the original part with me. The parts guy got the part number off his computer. When I got back to the boat and motor I noticed that although the bolt holes all line up, the wiring was different.
The original powerhead part number is CD6AL/67, underneath which are the following #'s: 584036 19 I O-OA. The new part number is (reading off the part itself)CD6AL/67, #'s underneath are 586661 22LZ-OA. The new part is a Bombardier part.
I took the new part and the original part back to the dealer to try and resolve the problem, and was told that the new part number is correct and when my original part number was plugged in to the computer it did not exist!
I suppose I could strip the wires and reconnect, but that seems silly and a waste of money. For example, on the original part there are two wires for ground, and only one on the new one, and some of the connections to the motor are different. I'll be back tomorrow at the dealer (instead of on the water fishing) to talk to a hopefully more knowledgeable person. I would appreciate any input on this problem. I am so glad I ran into this site a couple of weeks ago! It's great. Thanks in advance!!
By the way, just to verify the year of the motor, the serial number for the motor is G-2528756. I was not able to find the model number for the motor; there is no plate on the port side of the bracket attaching the motor to the boat, and could not find the model or serial # by the port side head gasket (I have read thru the posts and find them extremely useful!). The date 9/28/1998 is on top of the flywheel.

Thank you,
Danny "

" I talked to Bombardier, and

" I talked to Bombardier, and it turns out that the motor is a '90. They gave me the correct part number and I will be picking it up this pm. The date on the flywheel was for the flywheel only.

By the way, the phone number for Bombardier (OMC products) is 1-847-689-7090. They were most helpful.

"Danny.... The model number on

"Danny.... The model number on your engine (1998) should not be on the left transom bracket. It should be on the swivel bracket (the main bracket that the engine is hinged to so to speak) near the top, just under the engine. It is more like a stick on type ID setup rather than a plate. Also, inspect the powerhead itself. At some area on that powerhead, usually on the top area, there will be a core plug (resembles a small quarter size freeze out plug) that also contains the model number. See if you can locate that model number and get back to us.

" Joe,
Believe me, I've looked and I can't see it. I found (I think) the core plug, but all it has is the serial #. The guy from Bombardier tells me that my model number is VJ200TXES, as per my serial number.
Thanks a lot for answering. I've learned a lot just going through the posts.

" Joe,
Why would the flywheel

" Joe,
Why would the flywheel have a date of 9/28/1998 on it? Is that the manufacture date for the flywheel? Could it be that it has the wrong flywheel? It has been working fine.
Thank you,
Danny "

"Danny.... The model number of

"Danny.... The model number of VJ200TXES indeed indicates that your engine is a 1990 200hp. OMCs code is the word INTRODUCES with each letter standing for a number (I=1, N=2, etc). The "ES" in your model number stands for 90 (1990). The date on the flywheel is something I've never heard of. I just checked three of my flywheels and there is no date there. Strange. However, keep in mind the old saying which is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", meaning the flywheel must be okay. Happy boating.
