We are trying to read hours off a pair of these motors, one ECM will not read. I understand maybe info is feed in between ECM,s. They look original, never changed. IS there a trick to get info/hours read ? Remove a (common ) ground wire from ECM that's not reading ? Just trying to confirm hours at helm are somewhat same on the two ECM's, thanks

98's, if original, should be MEFI-3 ECUs...What are you using to "read" the ECU data? Are the ECU's interconnected as master and slave?

ECM's are MEFI-1's and we are using Sierra Stats & CDI meds. Can't get hours off one ECM. Think the crusader trick is to disconnect a ground or common ground on ECM thats not reading, can anyone confirm or explain proceedure ?

Never used Sierra's tool so can't say about it...Most good scanners provide the ability to select the master or slave ECU in a twin engine installation....assuming they have been interconnected. If that option isn't available, then you need to disconnect the master slave harness and hook up directly to each engine.

The ECU's are GM standard parts and most everybody making engines with them used the base factory programming...very few added any enhanced features though there are a few exceptions.
