I finished putting the gearcase back together but woke up this morning worried that maybe I had not pushed the bearing housing assembly in far enough. I’m referring to part #25 in the link below. It’s an odd design. SELOC simply states to push it in and then install the two retaining tabs and bolts. I theorized that if I did not install far enough that I might be able to pull prop shaft in and out…maybe??? Anyhow I did that and I’ve got maybe 1.5mm of movement. Not even sure that’s a valid test but anyhow. Obviously if it’s not in there far enough, the reverse gear won’t make good contact with the pinion which would not be great. Thoughts?

Overthinking.------That part puts itself it the right position !!-----What procedure did you use to ensure good / proper tooth contact between FORWARD gear and the pinion ????

Re positioning of bearing carrier - thank you!

Hmmm, I just followed the instructions in SELOC AND I ended up bringing the driveshaft into my local shop for proper shimming. didn't feel it was worth taking any risks there. Then I torqued the pinion to spec. Don't think I missed anything, did I?
