1998 40D2 Choke

It stops for a reason, and that will need to be diagnosed, with the aid of the Factory service manual as a guide. If it only runs with choke, you likely need to clean the carbs, and then do a link and sync... But other things could be at fault, including clogged fuel filter, poor fuel pump, damaged fuel line, etc.
 
Thanks Paul I'm new here and with Tohatsu. Your advise is in line with my thinking. I've already checked fuel supply thats good. I looked at the parts section but found no carb re-build kits for my motor. I thought since I was going to the trouble of taking everything off it would probably be a good idea to have at least two kits on hand. Thanks again for the help.

You would want to get the 3-carb kit. Kit includes gaskets, float & needle valve. One kit repairs all 3 carburetors. Fits:40D, 40D2, 50D & 50D2 2-stroke models. Part # 3C8871222M, $103.97, available from any dealer, including me. I would highly recommend using the Factory service manual as a guide. Covers all 3 & 4 cylinder 2-stroke models. Part # 003-21036-1, $44.17.
