1998 225 neutral safety switch

Motor will start when in gear.

I assume this is a bad neutral safety switch, but I thought they normally failed 'closed' such that motor wont start at all in neutral.

Is this likely the neutral safety switch? I have a spare so planned to swap but wanted feedback...

They can fail either way. Once you get the box apart you can make sure something did not break.
