"Ok... so i am trying to get this running again, about to replace that water pump and get some carb kits. already replaced hoses and cleaned upelectrical wirings, but i am having major difficulty with the trim/tilt system, the slenoids are testing good but the motor is an old three wire motor (black green blue) and the wires are all burned up looking. we are in the process now of trying to get the thing off which come to find out will be pretty involved because i have to take the whole starboard side engine mount off, so before i go through all the trouble, does anyone here have any advice as to why the wires would be charred? and if just sitting that long would do it. my father claims the trim/tilt was working when he last used the boat but again that was around 8 years ago. Also... when we try to use the trm tilt we get clicking from the selenoids but nothing else and one time there was a little spark and some smoke. looks like it came from the behind the selenoids by the voltage regulator. (selenoids still tested good after this) i just dont want to take this whole motor off and replaces it with a after market 3-wire if the selenoid are doing something strange. trying to make the decision of wither or not to drop the almost 1k to convert to a 2 wire motor.
as you can tell i dont have alot of experience with working on trim/tilt systems .. well at least nothing for engines this old. Any ideas or thoughts on this?"
