1998 175 hp mercury outboard operating temp.

Can anyone tell me the correct operating temp. for a 98 V-175 with carbs and a 143 degree stat.? At idle to around 2500 rpm's the starboard engine runs about 160. Above 2500 it runs 175 maybe 180. Is this norm? All replys will be appreciated. The port engine seems to run 5 to 10 deg. cooler

Merc doesn't publish an "operating temp" for any of it's models.

Since this model (like many) is running the 143 degree 'stats it's safe to assume that is the lower end of the (preferred) range.

The upper end is a little tougher to nail down.

On this model you won't get an alarm until the sensor detects 240 degrees - but the alarm will continue until the temp drops down below 210.

So based on that I would guess that between 143 and 210 would be considered normal/fine/ok with Merc....
