I have an opertunity to purchase twin 150 ficht engines with controls and gauges. They have around 800 hours and the fuel injectors have been updated. Owner says they run fine and will demo. I have read that these (ficht) motors have had alot of problem's. Were the issues fixed? What would be a good price for these motor's? or should I not even consider it no matter the price?

"The 1998's were problematic. If it's had all the updates, a good operating history, and proper service it should be ok though. Most of the 1998 problems were engineering issues that were solved by the updates. Many of the 2000 and 2001 models suffered from poor quality control in OMC's waning days.

Have them checked over real good by a mechanic. If they have good compression, and everything else looks good, there's really no good reason to outright reject them. If they have issues, it might be better to stay away.

I have no idea what a good price is. Probably depends on the locale, time of year, etc. The Ficht reputation may depress the price because some people won't consider them at all. On the other hand, someone not familiar with boating might pay a ton for a fuel injected motor that doesn't smoke."

"$2200 for both would be a steal in my book. $2200 each would still be a decent deal if they are in good condition. I haven't seen them, so I don't know anything about their condition. If they are trashed, it might not be such a good deal. Why is he getting rid of them?"

$2200 for both. Says he is upgrading to a single 250 4 stroke. I'm just not sure I want the pontential headache. I currently have twin 89 evinrude 140 that I think will run forever. I just need to find some midsection parts due to corosion. Better fuel economy would be great though.

Whenever the price seems too good I get very cautious. That price is ridiculous. Be careful.

"Jim,

Don't walk, run as fast away from those motors as you can. I have a 1998 Ficth that I took off my boat and it was a real POS. Most of them are in the trash by now. If you are anywhere near South Georgia I'll give you mine and it runs. The number 3 and 4 cylinders run hot and I had several OMC mechanics look at it and most would just frown and tell me to get rid of it which I did."

"Thanks for the replies, I have decided to pass on these motors and I will start looking for some replacement parts for mine."
