Acquired and started rehabbing this engine, after years of non-use. Kill switch was bad and engine would only start if the wires were shorted. Just changed ignition switch to Sierra with two "M" terminals. One of the kill switch wires went to the "M" ground terminal and I think the other went to the other (Magneto) terminal, but unsure as it broke, due to corrosion.
Now the engine won't start. I've connected the two kill switch wires to the two "M" terminals, but still no joy. (It could be flooded. I have fuel seeping out between shaft housing and gear case. Could this be exhaust of un-ignited fuel?)
Anyway, I thought I read that this Mercury should be "Open to Run", so my situation is different.
Can someone tell me for sure:
1. Do the kill switch wires go across the "M" terminals?
2. If not, doesn't one go to the ground terminal of the Ign switch, and the other somewhere else?
3. Where else?
Thanks
