1997 ' Mercury 9.9 HP emergency stop switch

Hi, I have a 97' Mercury 9.9HP outboard, which has a red push button at the end of tiller to stop it from running. But it doesn't have a safety lanyard in case of emergency. I am planning to install one but have no idea how. What's the easiest way to do it? There is an emergency stop switch on the side of the outboard, like this:

Is this something I can use for the safety lanyard? Thanks.

There is a safety lanyard that will clip onto the stop switch in your diagram - merc part number 15920Q54 - sell for about 14 bucks.

You could probably jury rig something up yourself for less than half the cost...
