I had a thought of mounting a Tach. This is a thought, not a desperate Repair.
Anybody have a schematic that would show me where to hook up the tach, the ground and maybe enough current left over to put a small LED for night work.

I put a new Power Pack on in 2001. Cant recall if it's aftermarket or not.

Yes, Tinytach (and a couple of clones) is the easiest/cheapest way to go.

It looks like you have a manual start/tiller, so it will not have the "lighting stator" required to run a conventional tach - plus you would need either a lighting regulator OR a rectifier/battery in order to have somewhere to "hook up a conventional tach" = $$$$$$$

Tinytach at about 35 bucks (most discount places) is simply installed by wrapping it's lead wire around the number one sparkplug lead. It has a built in/sealed battery that lasts about 10 years - doesn't get much simplier than that :)

Thanks so far. I think I'm going to build an Analog Tach with a meter.
HOw to power it????
Maybe I can build a small inductor to charge a small watch battery?
