1997 Mariner 2 cycle outboard, never used

I am thinking of buying a boat that has never been used that has a 1997 50 hp 2-cycle Mariner outboard, also never used. Both garage kept. Does anyone have and opinions what might be involved in going through this motor to make it sea worthy and reliable or is that a bad idea? While very handy and mechanically inclined, I will probably take it to a good shop for this "overhaul" All thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Install a new impeller.--If oil injected mix gas and oil at 50:1 till you verify that system is working properly.----If it has a seperate unit that says ---" autoblend "---throw it away and mix at 50:1.
