1997 Johnson Shift fiasco

Somehow, my shift detent lever (part number 15 in the diagram) broke in half, the top portion is still threaded on the shift shaft, but the bottom portion is still in the bearing housing. If I can remove the remaining portion, does anyone know if I can install the new detent lever by simply pushing it into the bearing housing (#17), or will I have to completely disassemble the gear housing?

Agreed.... you need to have that shift housing assembly in your hand in order to install that lever. Unfortunately it's the last thing one removes in that gearcase.

Haha awesome....oh well, I think she needed new seals anyways.
I've ordered an extra long needlenose to remove the snap rings, and a flywheel puller to get the bearing carrier out.
Also, part 311875 (drive shaft spline socket), and I understand I can use a 7/8" fixed wrench for the pinion nut.
Are there any other tools I will need?
Thanks!
Eric

The fixed wrench will work BUT you will no doubt need to grind a concave appearance to one side to have it clear the clutch dog.
