" The motor runs fine when it runs, but after about 5 minutes running wide open, it just dies, like you shut the key off. It will start right back up and run for a while then die again but start harder this time and gets progressively worse until it won't start at all. If I wait awhile it'll start. I pulled the plugs while cranking and no spark in any of the 3 cylinders. I'm thinking either a bad stator, or the "computer box" that sends red wires to the coils. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Model # is J35QLEDC "

Some of those motors have a s

Some of those motors have a switch that turns the ignition "off" should the motor overheat. It will start again when the motor has cooled.Check the cooling system.

" Thanks for the quick reply!

" Thanks for the quick reply! There is a strong stream of water at the telltale, I have removed the thermostat and put it in a pot on the stove and heated, it starts opening at about 120 deg. I had also thought that maybe the heat sensor was kicking it out, so I removed it from the head but left it plugged in to the harness. Still had the same results even with the sensor cool. Could the sensor be bad? There was also a problem with the little hoses behind the power pack coming off, and it looks like the pack may have gotten hot from whatever (fuel/combustion gases) was blowing out of the little fitting back there. Could the power pack cause this and how much are they? (looks expensive!) "

" Follow-up. I took the motor

" Follow-up. I took the motor in to have the wrench look at it. Turns out that the Powerpak "computer box" was bad so my suspicions were correct. Good news though, a new one only cost $220! Ouch! "
