1997 Johnson 130hp Diagnosis

Hello I recently purchased my first boat.
It has been running perfect the past few months however now has a problem.
Im a diy guy and want to solve this problem myself.
Everytime I try to start the boat after running for a while it just runs very rough and stalls.

Since purchasing the boat I have only changed only the sparkplugs & fuel filter.

Any ideas what may be the culprit?
 
start by checking the compression and making sure the fire is good on all cylinders and will jump a 7/16 inch gap with a tester....testers are available at most good auto parts stores and are not expensive...
 
In case some things may have been left unsaid................

If the engine has been running normally, then you shut it down for a fishing spell, beach it for a picnic, whatever, for say a half hour or so, then this problem suddenly exists... the first thing that would come to my mind is the following.

There is an Anti Siphon valve located at the built in fuel tank right where the flexible fuel line connects. The purpose of this valve is to prevent fuel from siphoning backwards into the tank. I'd be checking that valve first to see if it is stuck open... OR... if someone has removed the inner parts of the valve and converted it to a straight thru fitting.
