I am looking to buy a 97 37'Silverton Convertible w/859 Hrs. The boat was in fresh water the first 4 yrs. Surveyed and Sea Trial ran very strong. Are these good engines and your thoughts on converting them to FWC. Thanks for your input.

Very few people have been able to do that conversion and get away with it. Rust clogs the heat exchanger and causes overheating.

How are the engine's. Some say they are good for 1500 hrs if there taking care of. New risers and manifolds every 4 yrs.

They should be good for over 2000 hours before major overhaul if they have been well maintained.....the top end could need attention before then but should get at least 1000 hours.....the exhaust manifolds should see more than 4 years, even with raw water cooling - the risers and elbows usually need attention @ 4-5 years depending upon the environment they operate in.

Covering them, like Jeff suggests, is usually not recommended...that doesn't mean it can't be done - though it likely will be more hassle than its worth.

Jeff ...just trying to find out the correct transmission fluid for 1997 502 V8 Crusader Engines. Was told Dixitron.

it depends upon the GEAR that's behind the engine....

most of the inline velvet drives and the hurth gears take DEXRON III...V-drives are a different beast...

Thank you. I did talk with a marine supply company and they said it's more than likely Dexron and since it's red then he said that would be the fluid to use. They are direct drives.
Thank you again for responding.
