I have a 97 Mariner 90 HP that looses power and shuts down after ten to fifteen minutes of operation. After the power loss and shut down engine restarts easily and will run for another ten minutes or so then looses power and shuts down. Any help would be great. Thanks

Does it die like the lanyard killl switch is tripped or does it sputter? Did you check for spark when it dies? Do you have to pump the primer bulb to get it to start? Do you have the serial number?

It just slowly looses power and cuts off. It runs at idle in gear great with no cut off but as soon as I add throtle I get about ten minutes of high speed then it looses power and dies. No I have not done a spark check. No I have never really had to pump the ball to get it started. I use it a lot and the fuel never leaves the system, hit the key and it fires right up.

If the squeeze ball does not go flat when the problem occurs then the vent is open. Possible causes: fuel line leaking air at a connection, fuel line is narrowed inside and collapsing due to deterioration, maybe fuel pump diaphragm has a pin hole in it, fuel filter is dirty. Rule out those causes and then may have to open the carbs for a rebuild.
