The serial number and model number will be on a metal tag on the right side of the mount bracket, or on the power head. The mix is 50:1

Went to check it out..nothing on the mount, the metal tag on the powerhead just has the serial number on it. I noticed a wet spot under the prop..looked like water but had a strong oder of gas...I dont know alot about these motors, but I dont think its supossed to do that is it.

Most Merc's don't have a model number.

You will sometimes see things like 90 ELPTO - with all the letters breaking down to the various options or features (Electric start, Long shaft, Power Trim/tilt, Oil injected)

In the 2 stroke portable line an 8 horse, rope start would simply be an 8M or an 8ML if it was a long shaft....

Sorry, your second part about the "wet spot" - that is completely normal. Burnt and unburnt 2 cycle oil slowly (slithers) it's way down the exhaust housing and out the exhaust (thru the prop) after the motor has been run for a bit.

Normally it ends up in the lake or on the road during the trailer ride home, but can and does end up on the driveway or in the garage - totally normal....
