1997 50 HP mariner starter will not turn off.

Started the motor and the after engine started the starter dropped down but continued to spin. I assumed it was the solenoid so I replaced it and it worked normally 3-4 times then the same issue started again. I assumed at this point it was the ignition. Replaced the ignition and still have the same issue. Also, I reconnected the battery to trim the motor down with the ignition disconnected and the ingine started. I'm at a total loss. ''Replaced the ignition and still have the same issue''....what did you replace?....is it a remote start with a key switch?...is the motor new to you?..was any wiring done prior to the problem occurring?...do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?...this is a simple circuit..when the key is turned to start the small wire on the start solenoid is energized to pick it...12 v feeds through the solenoid when picked to spin the starter...when you release the start switch the pick to the solenoid should go away and the solenoid drops...no more voltage to the starter at that point...the question is whether the solenoid is still picked...if the voltage goes away on the pick of the solenoid then you have a welded point in it or its stuck closed...if the pick is still there then you need to find out why....

The ignition is on the throttle handle and keyed. I replaced the keyed part of the ignition. I have had the boat for years and never had any problems. No new wiring had been done prior to this happening. I tested the solenoid that I just replaced and it is bad. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence and I got a bad solenoid or if there is something causing them to fail?
Thanks again for helping. Headed to the store to get another solenoid.
