1997 200hp Evinrude Vindicator Run into the Sand

"I have a 1997 Evinrude Vindic

"I have a 1997 Evinrude Vindicator on a 21 ft. Stratos bass boat. While fishing a tournament I ran the prop into the sand under power. It stalled before I could back off. It will start and idle, but stalls when you shift into gear. I thought I sheared a key throwing off the timing, but the flywheel key is OK. Any Ideas????? Where do I start?????"

Running into sand at speed can do a lot of damage. Did you bend the propshaft or break something in the gearcase?

"No, the gearcase appears to m

"No, the gearcase appears to move freely and no funny noises from the gearcase. The prop actually looks good as well. It will start and run at an idle. You can put it in gear and run it at idle speed. When you try to power up it dies. Won't run under load. That is what made me think that I sheared a flywheel key."
