Re: 115 johnson missing/backfiring

Put a timing light on it and see which cylinder/ cylinders are acting up ---------------------If indeed it is an ignition issue.-------What does a compression test show on it ??-------Post the numbers of your test.

Re: 115 johnson missing/backfiring

timing looks ok no missing indicated, firing is constant, comp. is 140 on all cyl. idles fine bur cuts out around 2500 RPM. looks like i wasted a few bucks but replaced 2coils, all wires, plugs, power pack. any more help please.

i had the same problem. i didnt put the wores from the powerpack on correctly. the cylinders werent firing at the correct time. double check the wire colors with the manual

Stop guessing on expensive parts !-------------Get a strong flashlight and look into the carburetor bores. Look for the amount of fuel coming up the main jets and compare carburetor to carburetor.------------You have looked with the timing light on each cylinder as you speed up to see if there is a miss ??---------------The timing itself does not go out of adjustment, you are only observing the flash of the light to look for a miss.

I am just finishing a rebuild of a 97 - 115 HP Evinrude ( same motor )--------Assembling the motor on the back of the new owner's boat, and it will run like a charm.-----------Found broken piston rings in 2 cylinders and worn seal rings on crankshaft . ---------Just in case you are wondering
