1996 Mariner 125 - Beeping and Gas in the Oil Res ?

Buddy of mine just brought the boat home. Hooked a new battery up to it and turned the key to start the motor and there's a Beeep Beeep Beeep Beeep Beeep never ending just with the key in the on position. Got the motor started and running at idle speeds. Beeping still continued. Its and EfI and the reservoir is full. Motor was smoking quite a bit at start up, assuming this was just burning the fogging oil out. Smoked normally there after.

Took it out today. Kept beeping the whole time. Stopped at sandbar to check a few things and noticed the oil was thin. Smelled it and it smelled like it had gas in it? Any ideas on that. We did put oil in the gas tank to make sure not to blow it up.

Is there a Float somewhere in the oil res of this motor? And would the alarm go off with just turning the key to the on position without starting?

Did he fill the remote oil reservior in the bilge? If there is only an engine mounted under-cowling reservoir then the float switch is under it.

Any of the following conditions will signal a BEEP-BEEP-BEEP:
--oil level below the float switch level in the under-cowling reservoir
--input gear shaft to mixing pump turning too slow in relation to engine speed

There is no way to tell which of these events causes an alarm. You have to deduce which is the problem by inspecting the motor.
It is also possible that any of the following conditions will also signal a BEEP-BEEP-BEEP:
--defective float switch in the under cowling reservoir
--defective motion sensor in the mixing pump
--defective ignition module sending false signal--defective alarm module creating false signal

To be safe, Assume the oil injection is not working and use a 50 to 1 mixture until you are sure of what the problem may be. If the oil injection is working properly, it will smoke alot with the 50 to 1 mixture but no other damage will occur.

We made a trip out and through reading post after post we put oil in the gas tank to make sure. Too much smoke is better than a locked up motor...LOL . Its a new to us boat so we will have to go step by step. Just weird that the alarm sounds with just the key being put in the on position....

What about the Oil being thin and smelling like gas ? ...

Where did the sample of the oil come from? Did anyone look for a remote oil reservior in the bilge area. Did you find the oil level switch and disconnect it?

Sample came from the res under the motor cover. There is no other reserve tank like my 225 opti had. It was very thin.. and smelled like gas was in there

Its a 4 cylinder . 1996 Mariner 125 is all I know right now. Waiting on Model and serial # . He pumped out the oil res under the cover. and the oil lit on fire fairly quick so there is fuel in there somehow. He did order a manual so he can pull the oil res off and get into it.
