1996 Mariner 115 2 stroke outboard stutter

Good morning folks, so I have this 96 6 cylinder Mariner outboard for a full year now. The only problem I have with it, is running at half throttle. AT a trolling speed up to about 7 mph, she runs smooth, at full open up to 30 mph again runs smooth, any where in between she stutters.

Even at plain when I throttle down , trim up , same thing.

new gas tank, new filters, new gas lines no bulb issues, I have not checked cylinder pressure because she runs fine at low end and high end, all new fuel new plugs end of season last year.

Had this same issue running on portable tanks before the new tank.

Thanks for your ideas, Vin

A 96 is a 4 cylinder 2+2 motor. All.this info is for that motor if you do have a 6 cylinder ignore this. That means it idles on the top 2 cylinders until 1800 rpm when the other 2 kick in. This function is controlled by the carbs only. Get a factory manual to do a link and sync a clymer or seloc will be of NO help. You can also reduce the stuttering by being quicker on the throttle through the transition point.

It is best to positively post what engine you have !----A 1996 model 115 HP would be a 4 cylinder.-----But perhaps you just bought a 1986 model and were told it is a 1996 as that happens all the time.-----Happened 50 years ago and is happening today.-------Picture of your motor helps too.

My mistake it is a 4 cylinder, I dont have a rpm gauge but the problem is cruising in between the low and high end, it stutters on and off, its hard to cruise at that speed.

Thanks, Vin

The bottom 2 carburetors start working at about 1800 RPM or so.-------It will not be smooth at that 1800 / 2200 rpm range.-----Live with it or get another motor.

They are quirky motors but they dont have to be rough in that range. Double check the link and sync with a factory.manual. Or when you accelerate go past the transition point and throttle back. He engine will stay on 4 cylinders down to about 1500 rpm.
